THE BREIF:

Animate hand drawn elements for the music video to interact with dancers. Composite the animations and rotoscope the dancers out to make for more dynamic interactions.

THE PROCESS:

When I began this project, I knew that rotoscoping would be the most challenging aspect. So, I started by tackling this task first, using After Effects to paint out and mask off unnecessary areas. Color keying help a little, the only issue was the dancers wore light grey and white clothing, making it challenging to separate from the white background. However, once the rotoscoping was complete, I hand-animated each element for every dance scene. Collaborating with the creative director on which elements might need to be in color versus black and white.

For the scene with the curtain and roses, I used C4D's toon shader to render a stunning animation of the curtains sliding. To further enhance the visual appeal, I incorporated a small particle system to throw the roses in the air and composited them into the scene.
